MacOS FileVault: get and check recovery key

If you ever have been in the situation to need your recovery key for MacOS FileVault it’s good to have peace of mind to know that you have the current valid key.

You can check your recovery key at any time by opening a terminal on your Mac:

sudo fdesetup validaterecovery

Just enter or paste your recovery key and hit return. If you get a “true” your key is valid.

If this is not the case – or if you want to get the recovery key because you do not have it, this is the command you want to run:

sudo fdesetup changerecovery -personal
